Shopping and Markets
Generalities
Shopping is fairly rewarding throughout Fuerteventura. There are certain features which single Fuerteventura out as compared to other renowned shopping hotspots in Europe. For instance, tobacco, alcohol and cosmetics can be purchased in duty-free system, which is great for those with a penchant for such items.
Travelers intending to pay with their credit card should not forget to bring their valid passport; otherwise they will have to pay cash.
Another specific feature of Fuerteventura shopping centers refers to the fact regardless of their size, as a rule they have small entrances, which is a particularity resulted from the attempt to accommodate with certain climate elements (heat, wind, dust).
Depending both on their popularity and policy, certain shops may open seven days a week, whereas others open from Monday to Friday, with reduced opening hours on Saturdays. Smaller shops usually close during the hot summer days for the typical Spanish siesta, whereas others work continuously without interrupting their opening hours (10am to 10pm).
All major resorts have markets organized once or twice a week. These markets are excellent opportunities for those in search of bargains.
